1:13p - Variation in Fluid and in Music
Last night, it was a wee glass of some fine Irish whiskey while I wrote a bit before going to bed. Aside from absinthe, well-made Irish whiskey is the drink which most makes me feel the reasoning in folks calling alcohol 'spirits'. Incidentally, I scored my tickets to Colorado last night, so my long-awaited trip is going to happen - five days at the end of this month. Now, I have to call Naropa and set up the specifics of the visit - the tours, the interview(s), the class(es) I can sit in on while there. And I'll have to get in touch with emily, and give her the dates, and get her thinking about the details of where's the best place to live and that city, which place has the best unakyu, and what's up with the local music scene.
This afternoon, it's thick, strong coffee with beaucoup cinnamon. In Portugal, people thought it was funny to see me shake a bit of canela into my café com leite. They thought it was a riot when, after dinner, I'd ask for the real medronho, the stuff that the boss drinks, not the watered-down stuff (For the record, "Faz favor, traga-me algum desse medronho que seu gerente bebe, não esse licor aquoso barato," if you're ever in the Algarve). I'm going to be working late tonight, since I've got a lot of hours to get in and I'm taking the weekend off. Right now, I'm about to take a break and walk up to Fireballz to try to catch Jake, and see about getting a gig for my friend's band when they come through on their month-long cross-country tour. Lucky bastards. I found out that they're playing in Philadelphia on the same weekend as all that other great music - The American Analog Set plays Friday, the Irish Festival continues on the Jersey shore all day Saturday, that night Sigur Rós plays in Philly, and then Jer's band is playing on Sunday. I might have to look into taking a half-day off on Monday so I can stay for their show. They'd be playing here on the next night, Monday, if Jake's agreeable and will set the show up for me.

I'm plugging merrily away through the review for the third disc of the Ciphered Mix 5 set. It ought to be up later this evening.
